Many of you know that as a way to get back into the community and to meet new people after i was ill, i went to do a college course in beauty but another thing i did was cookery lessons at The Chequers Restaurant in Deal, these people helped me to come out of my shell and actually helped me to start cooking in my own home. I had discovered a renewed enthusiasm for cooking in my own kitchen again.
I Looked forward to these classes as it gave me a challenge every week, One of the organisers Stephanie has written a guest post about some fundraising they are doing to raise funds to pay for a kitchen so more families can benefit from the classes that Keen2Cook run.
Chequers Kitchen has taken the plunge with a crowd-funding campaign to help meet the costs of the lovely new cookery school. Crowd-funding is a way of gathering donations online and in return offering 'rewards' to people who make a donation. For example, Chequers is offering an exclusive recipe e-book, branded aprons, vouchers for cookery lessons and promotions for local businesses.
The funds will all go towards building and equipping the school which is home to Keen2Cook classes. People who really need to learn how to cook from scratch with fresh ingredients but can't afford to pay for cookery lessons can enrol on Keen2Cook for ten weeks and learn all the basics. The profits from the restaurant and paid-for cookery lessons will make it possible to continue Keen2Cook classes for those in need.
All donations large and small are welcomed and you can see a video about Keen2Cook and the plans for Chequers Kitchen here http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/chequers-kitchen/x/1214838
