So just before xmas I found out I am going to be a Nanny/Granny/Old person, its sometimes difficult to take in as i have a four year old of my own but that is the way our life turned when I had Tilly with a 15 year break between children. So Beth is Nearly 8 weeks pregnant and apparently the baby is the same size as some kind of seed, I try to listen as I am sure that I made them listen when I was pregnant with Tilly!
So we told some close family and friends before we announced it publicly on facebook. Tilly is really looking forward to being an aunty and me? well I am 42 years old with lots of fun left in me - having kids never succeeded in making me grow up, so will having grandkids? Is it time to sit back and behave? So what are the benefits of being a grandparent rather than a parent? of course I have heard the old ones like 'you can give them back' etc but is that it? Is life now a vision of me wearing comfy jumpers and sitting in a rocking chair with a blanket over my legs?
Learning - My grandchild has lots to learn from me as I have lots to learn from my grandchild. We will both learn together and I am still young enough to enjoy the learning curve we are about to start.
Revenge - I get to see my child going through the tough times like I went through them, I live for the day when my daughter comes to me with her troubled teen and says 'I am so sorry for the way I have been, can you please help me with mine'
Nappies - I wont have to change one, yet I still get the thrill of a new baby in the family.
Sleep - I will be able to enjoy the thrill of a new baby but not suffer the lack of sleep that comes with a baby, Oh the joy ;)
Love - You get to see your own child fill with love the moment that they hold their baby, you get to see the happiness in your child that a baby brings to your life.
Crying - When the baby cries, you can hand it back to its parents ;)
Bragging - you get to brag about the grandchild, about how clever they are and how wonderful it is to be a granny especially when your friends arent there yet.
Spoil - You get to spoil your grandchild and then hand them back, especially once you have filled them with E numbers.
Buddies - you get to be buddies with your grandchild, you have a relationship where they can come to you and talk to you about things that they cant tell their parents. Also importantly for me, Tilly has a buddy to grow up with.
Memories - You get to make the most precious of memories and you can do things that you did when your children were little, making new memories and traditions with your grandchild.
I am really looking forward to being a granny, I must remember not to take over as this is not my child. I must step back and let her get on with it. But EEEKKKK I am going to be a granny <3
