Visit London Transport Museum For An Exhibition Of London Character Art

Visitors to London Transport Museum have until Sunday 6 September to view one hundred artworks inspired by London’s unique character.

The exhibition The Prize for Illustration 2015: London Places and Spaces features illustrations produced by one hundred artists, depicting London landmarks from the real to imaginary, fantastical to familiar.
With pieces featuring famous icons as Big Ben, the Royal Observatory and Buckingham Palace, as well as London’s many secret spaces, it’s easy for viewers to get lost in this visual stroll around London.

All one hundred works were chosen from over one thousand entries by an expert panel of judges from the art and design world for the prestigious annual Prize for Illustration organised by London Transport Museum in partnership with the Association of Illustrators (AOI). Each illustration is accompanied by a short description by the artist outlining the inspiration behind their creation.

The winning image of the competition, which has been on display across London Underground over the last few months, can be seen during the final days of the exhibition. Eleanor Taylor, a Brighton based illustrator
, scooped the coveted Gold prize for her illustration of the Royal Observatory in Greenwich.

The Silver prize went to Carly Allen-Fletcher for Compound City, and the Bronze prize to Eliza Southwood for Parkour at the South Bank, making it an all-women top line-up in 2015.The annual competition is open to illustrators and students of illustration throughout the world. This year’s theme was London Places and Spaces.
The Prize for Illustration: London Places and Spaces is at London Transport Museum, Covent Garden Piazza, WC2E 7BB. Tickets cost £16.00 (£13.50 concessions) and allow unlimited daytime entry to the Museum galleries and temporary exhibitions for a whole year.
