Sow And Grow With Innocent Drinks & Grow It Yourself
This week we were invited to Fruit Towers, The innocent Drinks offices in London. innocent drinks has teamed up with television cook and mum of one, Lorraine Pascale, to get kids excited about eating healthy fruit and veg by growing their own. Tilly and her little friend A, were able to grow their own vegetables in little cups to take home. They were so excited and couldn't wait to get their hands dirty and plant some cress, peas and spinach. We had a lovely chat with Lorraine and she gave us some great healthy recipes for kids incorporating veg in to food to get kids to eat it.
Innocent’s Sow & Grow campaign aims to gets kids out in the fresh air, sticking their hands in
some dirt and having fun with growing their own veg. This way, kids are more likely to eat more veg, because they have grown it themselves. They also develop an understanding of nutrition and goodness that will stay with them as they grow up and encourage them to eat healthily.
Lorraine is a passionate supporter of the campaign, she has grown her own veg with her daughter for many years. She grew up on a farm in Devon and wants to help to share the knowledge, this is what she says
“As a mum, I know how difficult it can be to get kids to eat their all-important portions of fruit and veg. For me, one of the best ways to get kids excited about the healthy stuff is to get them involved in making their own food – and that starts with growing their own. My daughter Ella and I have enjoyed growing lots of different types of veg over the years, and I’m absolutely positive it has played an important part in her healthy outlook to nutrition which is why I’m so excited to be part of innocent’s Sow & Grow campaign this spring”
For the Past 4 years, innocent have been teaming up with the charity based in Waterford called Grow It Yourself to help provide 20,000 children up and down the country with everything they need to grow their own fruit and veg in classrooms.
This Spring we will see innocent and Grow It Yourself bringing Sow & Grow to schools in the UK. Over 3300 British schools have signed up to get their very own growing kit full of seeds, info packs and lesson plans to help teachers incorporate healthy eating in to their lessons, helping 100,000 kids get everything they need to get involved. And it’s all absolutely free. Every month there will be prizes awarded to pupils who upload pictures of their seed growing and fill in their growing diaries. Their class room could also be crowned as Sow & Grow champions.Teachers will be able to apply online soon to get their seeds, diaries and lesson plans.
Tilly and her friend even had a sneaky go on the famous banana phone at Fruit Towers
