Learning From Home With NCC Home Learning, Embarking On A new Journey

For the past 6 months I have wanted to understand how a paedophile could groom my daughter right in front of my eyes and how I couldn't or didn't see it. So when the chance came to take a course on Cyber Crime, I decided that it was time to sort it out and learn how people commit crimes on line and how easy it is manipulate people without you realising.

The course I was offered was an online course that I could do in the privacy of my own home, one where I could work at my own pace and do a few hours here and there. NCC Home Learning offer course from Autism Awareness to Creative Writing, they also offer exam course like GCSEs and A levels.

The course we chose to do was Cyber Crime and it covers the following subjects, Breaking each module down into separate sections

  • Hacking & Hactivism
  • Malware
  • DDoS Attacks
  • Cyber-Frauds, Scams & Cons
  • Theft
  • Sex Offending
  • Cyber terrorism
  • Cyber stalking
  • Cyber bullying
  • Organised Cyber crime
  • Virtual ‘Pirates’: Intellectual property, copyright & piracy
  • Legislation
  • Digital Evidence
  • Investigative Strategy & Procedure
  • The Threat
  • Reducing Cyber Risk
I really never knew that so many crimes were committed online and doing the course has not only helped me to understand Child exploitation online but also frauds, scams and malware. I now understand viruses and how they work.

The course is easy to follow, you get given the underpinning knowledge that you need to read. If you have a printer I would suggest printing it off because you will them find that it is easier to read, rather than reading it on the computer. You can also make notes on the paper work if you print it out. At the end of the Cyber Crime course there was an exam to take, it was forty multi choice questions and you need to achieve a high percentage to pass.

There is an online chat box, so if you do have problems you can contact someone straight away. If they are not online, you can always email them or call in office hours. So help is always at hand if you need it. Each course has a description if you click on it, and it tells you the price of the course.

I am still working my way through the course as I only have a few hours a week free to do it, but as soon as it is finished I will let you know how I got on.
