What Is Telehealth And How Does It Work?

When is the right time for counselling?
Three years ago, a crisis hit my family. It wasn't a small problem, it was HUGE and as I am the mum, I was the one that had to cope with the fallout without having a breakdown myself. I had three other children that needed my support and attention. So I had to carry on with life, putting my hurt to the back of my mind and support the kids. I'm not a hero or a strong person, I just clearly didn't know where to turn to and even if the doctor referred me to a counsellor, I didn't have the time to go and I had a child with me a lot of the time. So going to see a counsellor, really wasn't an option for me.

Had I known then, what I know now, then I would have jumped at this opportunity. Now you can participate in a new concept that is called Telehealth or Telemedicine. It is where you can find health support from an online source or website, you can read more about it here. Telehealth does cover a wide range of services from distance patient to Dr or clinical adviser contact and care, advice for you and your needs, reminders of appointments, Intervention, if it all gets too much for you and you can be monitored to see what care and assistance you might need.

It opens up a wide range of services for you to be able to access at home from your phone, tablet or computer and means that you can seek the help that you need around your work hours and family. Had I known about services like this, then I would have used a service like this to seek out online counselling services. It would have suited me because I could do it when my child was at school but in the comfort of my own home. Or I could have done it at any time of the night when I really felt like I needed to talk to someone because we always find that we have so much on our minds in the middle of the night, don't we?

My older daughter Kim also didn't seek therapy and she had a mini breakdown about a year after the event and had to go onto antidepressants. This could have been avoided if I had insisted she sought help. I thought she was dealing with it, okay, but obviously, she wasn't. NEVER put off seeking help when you need a therapist or counseller, its the worst thing that you can do. It is good to talk to someone who is impartial and someone who is trained to be able to help you in a time of crisis or when you feel like there is no one else to turn to. A counsellor will help you to see the positives, that you cannot see for yourself and a counsellor will never judge you for what you are saying or your actions.

Telehealth is a way to help you without leaving the house or a way you can seek help any hour of the day and night. It's easy to find a counseller online. With waiting times to get to see a Dr and the cost of private health care, it makes sense to go online and seek immediate help.
