Tips On Getting A Good Night Sleep

Do you ever have nights where you just cannot sleep? I hate it because sometimes I'm up until 3am because my brain won't switch off and other nights, I try to sleep but I just can't get comfortable. Then you need to get up at 7.30 am to get ready for the school run. Wearing the zombie mum look, isn't a good look and you feel so much worse for lack of sleep, so here are some tips on how to get a good night sleep.

Block Out The Light

Making sure that you have dark curtains of a blackout blind or curtains. This will block the light from your bedroom, ensuring that you sleep until morning and it will also block out the street lights that might be out the front of your house. Sleep masks are also good for this, you can buy these really cheaply in most stores and they are excellent for travel.

Lose The Tech

If you use the phone or your tablet before bedtime, it keeps your brain stimulated and you will find it very difficult to sleep. Using your phone with the eye comfort filter means that the blue light is blocked out and makes it more comfortable for your eyes and will be less stimulating. Put the phone into flight mode at night and you won't be disturbed by any social media notifications.

Get A Decent Mattress

Buy a good mattress, it really is important, not only to help you sleep comfortably but will also be good for your posture and you won't wake up feeling like you haven't slept. I know sometimes that money is tight but it really is worth saving up money to buy a decent one, otherwise you end up paying twice. A cheap mattress is going to be uncomfortable as well as lower quality and won't last as long. Don't forget to turn your mattress every few months and exchange it every few years.

Buy Decent Pillows

Get some decent pillows and make sure they are fluffy. If pillows become flattened, they will need replacing because they will be uncomfortable for you and give you neck and backache. There are so many different pillows on the market these days like side sleeper pillows and bounce back pillows. If you're asthmatic or suffer allergies, then go for some hypoallergenic pillows.

Block Out Noise

Do you have a partner who snores? There is nothing worse, is there? Block out the noise with some earplugs, you can easily buy these from the local drug store or on Amazon. You could listen to some relaxing music, this not only cuts out the noise but also helps you to relax.

Have The Right Bedding On Your Bed.

If you sleep in bedding that's too thick and heavy in the summer, then you're going to get too hot  and sweaty to sleep and the same goes in the winter if you use bedding that's too light, you will be too cold to sleep. make sure you get it right and it's a good idea to keep an extra blanket in your room, just in case for the winter.

Don't Drink Caffeine Before Bed

Caffeine will keep you awake, so avoid coffee and other drinks that contain caffeine. Try and make your last caffeinated drink about 2 hours before you go to bed.

Don't Switch The Light On When You Go To The Toilet

If you need to get up in the middle of the night, don't switch the light on, it will wake you up and you might find that you can't sleep again. Also, don't check your phone in the middle of the night because you will wake up and you will find yourself scrolling through loads of other pages and websites before you know it, you have been awake for two hours through the night.
