How Can I Get A Good Night Sleep?

I am the first to admit that I am the worst sleeper, Sometimes I survive on about 4 hours sleep!

Sleep is the time that we recharge our batteries ready for the day ahead and lack of sleep can be not only dangerous but embarrassing too. The amount of times I have fallen asleep on the bus home with all the school kids on it is embarrassing (especially as I snore), I also worry that I am going to actually miss my stop.

Losing 2 hours a night of sleep dramatically decreases your productivity throughout the day and that is where accidents happen! I have been with my company for nearly 14 years and sometimes after lack of sleep, I make the silliest of mistakes, which shouldn't be happening with all my experience in the job. Not getting enough sleep can make you feel stressed and unable to function properly on a day to day basis. Also the dark circles under the eyes isn't a look that you really want to wear, because you haven't had sleep. So today on the blog we are giving you some tips to help you get a good night sleep.

My biggest downfall at bedtime is taking the Kindle to bed and watching something on Netflix, then I want to watch another episode and another. Before I know it, it is 3AM and I have to be up by 8AM. Even once I put the Kindle off, my mind is still buzzing and I can't sleep. My advice is not to start a box set at 10PM at night.

Sticking to a sleep routine will help you to sleep at night, go to bed and wake up at the same time every day and try not to nap in the day, especially after 3 PM. Getting up earlier in the morning will help you to get more sleep at night and you will actually feel more refreshed for the day ahead of you.

Is your mattress comfortable? without a decent mattress, you won't get a good night sleep. There is nothing worse than waking up in the middle of the night because there is a spring digging you in the back. Having an uncomfortable mattress means that it could lead to backache too, so investing in a new mattress could really help with getting a good night sleep too.

Don't drink caffeine or eat sweets containing sugar before bed, caffeine will keep you up all night because it will stimulate your brain too much and you will not go to sleep for hours. Also having too much chocolate, cake or sweets before bedtime will give you a sugar rush as well as making you feel really uncomfortable throughout the night. 

Getting decent pillows will help you get a good night sleep because if your head isn't supported enough at night, then you are not going to sleep. Remember that you always get what you pay for, so make sure you buy quality ones or you will end up paying twice. Cheap pillows will go flat almost as soon as you buy them. Feather pillows are the best pillows and will help you to sleep so much better. 

If you use your phone at night in bed then make sure that you put your phone backlight on night mode, this will cut out the blue light that helps us to use the phone in the day time. But this blue light can confuse our eyes and brain at night when we are supposed to be going to sleep. If you switch the blue light off by adjusting the colour in your settings.

Lavender Spray has been a good way to help you get a good night sleep for a long time. Spray some lavender on the pillow before you sleep and in the air around your bedroom. Also, take a soak in the bath with some lavender bubble bath, the warm water will make you feel more tired and the lavender will soak into your skin to help you sleep. 

A Glass of wine always helps me to unwind before bed and to have a good night sleep! We all know that you can not sleep if you are stressed or wound up. You feel stressed out and you spend most of the night worrying about your problems. So relaxing before bed will certainly help you to sleep. 

Create a relaxing environment in your bedroom, try not to have too much clutter in there and make it a haven that you want to be in. Make sure your room is airy and fresh too because this will make you feel more relaxed and if you change the bedding, you will find that you sleep more easily.
