Back To School With Smiggle

It's a last-minute panic now to get everything ready for the kids to go back to school in September (although some schools in Scotland, have already gone back). If you are the parent of a pre-teen like me, then you will be familiar with the products from Smiggle. Smiggle sells everything from lunchboxes to pencil cases and school bags. It is a one-stop-shop for whatever you need. Having my very own Smiggle fan, I often spend hours in the stores in London or Canterbury as she chooses what she wants. Going into year 5, I can't get away with buying her Poundland pencils, because she wants the same as her friends, and I want better quality products for her to help her feel grown-up and special. We were recently sent a selection of Smiggle goodies to review ready for back to school.

School Bag

Firstly we received a school bag, the Viva Chelsea Backpack in lilac. It is a beautiful design of shells and mermaid tales in lilac and green with holographic pink. It is a backpack with adjustable straps and three zipped compartments for your little one to pop all of the things they need to take to school. The first compartment is on the front of the bag. It is big enough to pop a pencil case in there. The smaller zipped compartment on the side is ideal to slip phone or purse in to and it is quite deep with a net insert to stop things falling out.

The third zipped compartment is obviously your main bag which is big enough for taking to primary school, but you would need a bigger one for kids going to secondary school. Inside the compartment is a laptop section, which is padded and holds your laptop or smart device in place and keeps it protected. It has a velcro strap over the laptop section to keep the laptop from falling out and smashing. If you want to get smaller smart devices out of the bag without opening it and having to rummage through the bag, then you turn the backpack round to the back and you have a zip that you open and it accesses the laptop section. You can then get your device in and out without any worries, but a laptop won't fit through the zipper.

There is a drinks holder on the side of the bag and it can fit most bottles in because it has a toggle and piece of elastic on there too loosen and tighten the pocket. This will prevent the bottle from falling out. The bag has a flap on the outside as well as the zip, this will help make sure the bag is closed securely and an adjustable clip adds extra security to the bag. The famous Smiggle label is visible on the front of the backpack as well as on the zips for the compartments.

We found this bag a really good size for fitting in everything that Tilly would need for school on a daily basis and also for taking things away for weekends. I love the holographic pictures on the bag because it will help her be seen in the winter as the nights start to draw in. I love the idea of the name label inside the bag, which is big enough for your child's name and address in case they lose the bag. And the carry handle on top of the backpack, means you can grab the bag in a rush or carry it like that if you don't want it to be a backpack. The Smiggle Viva Chelsea Backpack is £34.00.

Pens And Pencil Cases

This is as important as the actual school bag and kids these days, most certainly know what they want. Tilly was sent Seek Hardtop Pencil Case in Purple. The pencil case has a chunky pink zip that goes all the way around the pencil case. There are 6 slots to put pens and pencils in, the slots are actually big enough to hold two smaller pens or pencils or one larger pen each. On the other side of the pencil case, there is a net section with two slots where you can put other pencils and pens and they just pop in and the net holds them in place. The pens and pencils are securely in place and they do not move out of place or fall out when you open the pencil case.

The Pattern on the pencil case is night time, calming pattern with clouds and unicorns. This is quite appropriate because Tilly always asks me what she should dream about at night, and I always tell her to dream about unicorns. The Smiggle logo is written across the top and is in a bright pink colour, as well as on the zip. The pencil case is £12.50 and we have the purple one, but they are available in colours to suit girls and boys.

The Colourful Ballpoint Pens are absolutely fab! They are a pack of 10 ballpoint pens in various colours and the best thing about them is that they smell when it is written on paper! Our favourite one is the brown coloured pen that seems to smell of cola, The pens write in bright colours and they are easy to write with too. The packet does say that the pens smell of grapes, but they do actually smell of a variety of other smells too. The nib is 1mm and they are click pens to use. The pens are £6 for 10, which is a great price. I think these are my favourite items in the set that she was sent, but sadly she won't give them to me!

Every child needs a ruler so the Explore Combo Ruler Stationery Set is perfect for their needs because, it holds pencils, a sharpener and a rubber. The teal one is what Tilly has, and the design is full of butterflies. The rubber and pencil sharpener comes out to be able to use them and they are securely in place when they are popped in their slots. The ruler is a full size 30 cm ruler and is quite strong with the Smiggle logo across the top. It comes in a variety of colours to suit both boys and girls. The Ruler stationery set is £4.50 from Smiggle
