4 Things You Need To Remember When Moving Home

Whether you are moving from a big house to a smaller one or switching things up between an apartment and a two-bedroom property, moving home is a BIG deal. While exciting, you’ll also be faced with a to-do list that seems never-ending, and every time you tick something off, a new task will present itself.

As a result of dealing with so many different things at once, a few things are bound to slip your mind – which could result in trouble further down the line. With that in mind, here are four things you need to remember when moving home.

There will be unexpected costs when you are moving home

Whenever you are moving home, you’re probably going to be dipping into your savings a little to cover the expenses. As a result, you may be looking for ways to save money between paydays. However, while you may be ready and prepared to pay for certain things – such as removal vans and the price of the property itself – other costs may crop up unexpectedly and catch you by surprise. For example, you should also be prepared to pay for things such as home insurance. Thankfully, you can keep the cost of insurance nice and slow by working with companies such as Call Wiser.

You need to forward your mail.

Think about the amount of mail that you get sent to your home over a month. Whether it’s birthday cards or bank statements – you probably get sent things in the post more often than you realise. As a result, it’s important that you let people know you are moving – especially those who are likely to send you confidential information. You can also arrange for the post office to forward mail from one address to the other by filling out a redirection form.

You can’t leave packing to the last minute.

If you asked around, you’d be hard-pressed to find somebody that actually enjoyed packing (unless it was for a holiday). Packing up boxes is also made ten times harder when you have to find a way to move an entire house worth of belongings at once. Therefore, you should make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible by giving yourself a head start. For example, you could begin packing a few weeks before the big move – starting with items you don’t use often. Remember, this is also a great time to sort through your belongings – getting rid of items you no longer use. You don’t have to throw them away – you could donate them to a local charity. Or even sell them online to earn some extra cash.

You need to make sure everybody is prepared for moving home.

While you may be ready and excited to move – other members of your family, especially your kids, maybe less sure. This is because many children tend to hold onto familiar things. And have probably never experienced living in a different house before. Therefore, you should take some time to speak to them ahead of time, helping them prepare for any upcoming changes.
