Welcome To The New Year

Welcome to my little space of the internet. If you are a lontime follower then you will know of everything my family has endured over the years. If you are new to the blog, then I want to welcome you to my life. I am Vicky and I am mum to Tilly, who is nearly 14. I have Bipolar disorder and my life is usually one big fuck up. But there are days when everything seems to go okay. Those are the winning days. Those are the days that I feel like I can get out of bed and face the world. Today is a good day. The new year brings some new things to look forward to and some new challenges to overcome.
What We Have To Look Forward To In The New Year
Last year we went Interrailing through Europe as a way for Tilly to cope with her problems. This year we are looking forward to doing it again. This summer we have 2 weeks to explore somewhere that we haven’t been before.
Tilly starts her GCSEs in September, So it will be the start of a busy couple of years with her. But also the start of a new part of her life. She is growing up into a lovely lady. She has her demons to fight, but we will help her through them. Now I am working with the school to get her the support that she needs.
I am looking forward to experiencing some different things this year. I am hoping to go to a concert or two with Tilly. Maybe even a festival, we haven’t been to one since before Covid. And I have some time booked off in April, so I am looking for an adventure.
I am looking forward to continuing on my blog and growing my social media. I have a love-hate relationship with Instagram and Facebook. The algorithms are crap and I get overwhelmed with ads. It takes away the fun of using these platforms.

What I Want To Leave In 2023
We have had loads of problems with Tilly’s school over the past year or so. It has got worse since the new head took over. The school is so negative, if there is someone naughty in the class, the staff punish the whole class. This gives the kids a negative approach to school and it is so detrimental to their mental health. Tilly’s mental health has taken a real battering and the school does not support her. It all came to a head when I got her a mental health appointment at the doctor. I asked the school to let her go early, but when I went to collect her, she wasn’t ready. The doctors cancelled her appointment as we were so late. The school offers no support and I started looking for a new school. I made a complaint to the school, the trust and Ofsted as well as the Dept of Education.
Suddenly the school took notice and admitted there had been mistakes made. The SEN that was supposed to contact me since July, finally got in touch. We have a meeting in the new year with the head of the school trust and SEN. They have asked me to give them until February half term to get Tilly back on track.
I am ready to leave all types of assholes in 2023. There have been some, I can tell you. They are not welcome in my life in the new year (or in fact – ever).
Where I Am With My Mental Health
My mental health took a real battering in 2023, there were people involved in creating situations that I couldn’t help with. And some people were toxic, so they didn’t deserve a place in my life. Toxic people are not good for your mental health. But having the nerve and the guts to remove them from your life is hard.
My mental health was acknowledged by DWP last year. When you are diagnosed with an illness, you don’t get a certificate to say what’s wrong. so when you tell people, often you feel like they don’t take it seriously. Or that they don’t believe you. To have it acknowledged was a huge thing for me.
I am still having my good and bad days. But I am in a routine and it works for me. I work 3 set days a week, then I don’t need to leave the house on the other days. I can hide away from the world. But with support, I can have a positive 2024.
