Keep Your Skin Healthy

Are you a makeup lover who’s never seen without a bit of eyeliner or highlight on? Then you’re probably pretty skilled already in the art of makeup application, removal, and maintaining a healthy glow. However, there’s always a chance that your love for using makeup is more on your mind than avoiding the sneaky skin damage that can come with using makeup products. It’s pretty common for skincare mistakes to be made. And simply because we don’t think about them all that much!  But we’re all about skin health here! As such, we’ve pulled up three of the most common makeup mistakes. We will tell you how you can avoid letting them cause breakouts, blockages, and infections and how to keep your skin healthy. And using a Gentle Facial Cleanser can help support a cleaner routine and maintain healthy skin.

Try Not To Use Expired Products

When a makeup product is out of date, the ingredients inside can turn a bit nasty. The product itself is less likely to work properly, and applying it to your face can make you much more prone to getting spots and blemishes.  Look at the ‘shelf life’ icon that’s usually found on the back of the pack, palette, or case. Usually there’ll be a number like 6, 12, or 24, followed by ‘m’ for months. If it’s been over that period of time since you bought it, throw it away and get a new one.

Keep Makeup Away From Open Wounds

Makeup and open wounds should never mix. When they do, it’s very easy for bacteria to get under the skin and in a place where it can cause redness, swelling, pus, and even a full on infection that you need antibiotics for. So, picked a spot and have a little scab over it now? Try to avoid putting too much foundation or concealer on the site. If you need to cover it for something like your job, reach for a hypoallergenic product that’s still clearly within its shelf life and apply it lightly.

And if you’ve just had your bottom lip pierced for something like an ‘ashley’ piercing, make sure you follow your ashley piercing aftercare advice to the letter! Don’t be tempted to just skip over the step where it says to avoid applying lip products. Pay attention and keep your new piercing clean while it heals!  The same goes for any cosmetic procedure that affects the face. Do what your practitioner says and let the site have some time to heal.

Always Go To Bed With A Fresh Face To Keep Your Skin Healthy

Never sleep with your makeup on. Not only does it set a rather harmful precedent for your mental health, but it’s going to damage your skin too. Once again, it’s very easy to suffer breakouts when you’re sleeping with makeup still in place. But on top of that, there’s a chance your skin will become a lot more dehydrated too, and that can make it appear a lot more dull. When you love makeup, be sure to treat your skin right whenever you use it. Stay in date, sleep fresh-faced, and avoid wounds!
