Children in difficult home situations often need help from an outside party. That is why NSPCC is here to help them. They offer confidential advice to children to guide them in the right direction. The NSPCC helpline is staffed by trained professionals who can provide expert advice and support. We’re here if you’re concerned about a child, if you’re a parent or carer looking for advice, or if you’re a professional in need of information and guidance. Together we can help every child who needs the chance to be heard.

Facts About NSPCC

Childline was started in 1986 by Esther Rantzen as a confidential service where children up to age 19 could be heard. And then receive the support they need.
In 2006 Childline became part of the NSPCC, however, the services provided have remained the same.
Calling Childline is free and will not show on the phone bill. It is a free and confidential service available 24 hours a day 365 days each year.
Youngsters calling Childline can talk about anything whether it’s big or small our trained counsellors are here to offer support.
A Childline counsellor will understand the courage that it takes to pick up the phone and make that call they won’t judge or put anyone down. What they will do is listen and be open and friendly.
Childline posts on social media almost every day with advice, support, and discussions.
On average a child contacts Childline every 26 seconds. Thanks to your kind support the service remains open 365 days a year, lending a listening ear to children when they need us most. This week marks 35 years since the service began.
Over 1 in 3 Childline counselling sessions are about mental and emotional health issues, so it’s important that our counsellors offer a safe space for children to share and process difficult feelings.”
