Help With Insomnia Through These Times

Are you having trouble sleeping? I am! My mind is so full of rubbishy things going around my head at nights. I can’t switch off and get to sleep. Why is it that we suddenly worry about all of our problems at night? Especially when there is nothing that we can do, there and then. So we wanted to share some ideas that will help with insomnia through the night. Sometimes we even have to go back to think about how we helped our children sleep at night

Take A Soak In The Bath

Run yourself a warm bath before bed, add some nice bubble bath or a bath oil and light the candles. Warm water is a relaxant on its own, but alongside all the other things, you will soon be ready for a nice long sleep. Lavender is relaxing so you could use lavender bath products or lavender candles.

Also use Epsom Salts. You can buy these in the bath section of a drug store , pour 450g into a warm bath and soak. The magnesium sulphate in the Epsom salts, not only cleans your skins, gets rid of aches. But might also reduce your blood pressure.

Switch Off Gadgets

This is one of our biggest problems here! we all use our gadgets to watch Tv in bed or video call our friends. We scroll through social media before we go to sleep and if we wake up in the night.

Try turning your gadgets off an hour before you go to bed. If you can’t do that, then switch the backlight down to dim it. Watching things on your gadgets in bed means that you do not switch off. Your brain stays alert when you want it to go to sleep.

Listen To White Noise

White noise is a load of different noises that are all different frequencies. So they virtually cancel each other noise out and you get a relaxing noise to listen to. Babies often settle with white noise, so surely it will work with adults too.

You can get white noise sounds online for free or buy it and put it on your I pod. Then switch off the light, relax and listen to your noise. Hopefully, you will soon drop off and get a good night sleep.

Drink Herbal Teas

We have Adagio Teas to drink at night if we can’t sleep but you can get many different types of tea to drink before you go to bed. Passionflower tea is an excellent drink to have before bed because it helps you to calm down and helps you sleep. But there are some medications that interact with passionflower. So always check with a doctor before you use it.

Chamomile tea is also a good bedtime drink to help you relax and sleep. You can buy chamomile tea in the supermarket or make it yourself. Snip some fresh chamomile below the flower head. and use a bit of either brown string or cotton and pop it in a cup of hot water.

Get The Temperature Right

If you don’t get the temperature right, you will either be too hot or too cold. Although it is nice to be warm and cosy in bed and it might help you get to sleep. You might over heat through the night. Get the bedding right for the weather. Keep the window open for some ventilation in your bedroom. Equally if you are too cold, you won’t sleep either. Keep the bedroom at a good temperature.

Don’t Eat And Drink Junk Before Bed

Don’t get the cola and the chocolate out before bed. You will feel wired and think you can stay up or night. Have your last coffee a couple of hours before bed and switch to a milky hot chocolate.

Eat foods that will help you sleep. Serotonin is a brain chemical that helps you sleep. So you need to eat foods before bed that are rich in tryptophan (an amino acid that makes serotonin). Foods like Bananas and Turkey are rich in tryptophan.
