Homemade Decorations

If you’re anticipating a lean Christmas financially this year. But would still like to deck the halls of your house with some Christmas homemade decorations that won’t break your budget. You can consider some of these ideas. All of them are very inexpensive but they’ll still create a holly jolly Christmas feeling throughout your home.

Mint Wreath

Poundland has bags of mints for £1 a bag. If you are lucky you will find some red and green mints. The red and green mints are ideal for this Christmas wreath idea.

First, unwrap as many mints as you estimate you’ll need. You may need to unwrap more later. Then, cut out a doughnut shape from a larger piece of cardboard. Next, hot glue the mints alternating the red and green mints to the cardboard doughnut shape until the entire shape is filled. The finished product is very cute and cheery. If you cannot get some red and green mints. You can make it with other wrapped mints.

Christmas Lights

For under £20, you can buy a couple of strings of different coloured lights and hang them inside the house. I had a friend that did this every year and it really gives the house a warm cheery glow for the holidays. To keep the cost down just hang them in the living or family room. Whichever room is the busiest and most used by your family. You can use these lights year after year, so the cost is only paid out once and the other years they are free to put up. You just pay for the electricity.

Kids Christmas Artwork

Displaying your children’s Christmas decorations that they make at school or home is a very cost-effective way to decorate the house for the holidays. I’m looking forward to seeing what artwork my kids bring home this Christmas season that I can use to display throughout my house. It also makes them proud to see their art pieces on display all around the house. Homemade decorations from kids are the best!

Homemade Christmas Centerpiece

Cut out a doughnut-shaped piece of cardboard and use different holly leaves and other greenery that you can cheaply buy at craft supply stores or collect from a walk in the woods. Glue these on, then use a chunky red or green candle to place in the middle of the centrepiece to finish this project.

Embroidered Tablecloths and Wall hangings

If you are good at embroidery you can make some gorgeous Christmas tablecloths and wall hangings very cheaply. There are lots of beautiful Christmas themed embroidery patterns to use for this project. Just give yourself enough time ahead of the holiday season to get it done in time for display.

Window Frame Embellishments

This is a traditional Christmas decoration in my own home that we do without fail. You can cheaply adorn your window frames with red bows that usually come three in a pack, for a couple of pounds each. I tape these bows to each top corner of all the window frames on the main level of our house. This can also be nicely done with a garland. Either way, it creates a lot of Christmas cheer throughout the house.

Happy Christmas!

These ideas are great ways to save money on Christmas homemade decorations. While still providing a cheery Christmas atmosphere throughout your home. My personal favourites are the things the kids make but all of these ideas work well.
