But everyone at home had a summer of rain. So that last burst of sun when the kids went back was lovely. Now, you do not want to wear a heavy winter coat because you get too hot. Tilly is a nightmare wearing a coat over her school blazer, so I wanted a raincoat that was warm and would also keep her dry. Our solution was the Lands End Packable Raincoat. It comes in a variety of colours, so we chose navy as it will go with much of what Tilly wears. Although it is a packable raincoat it is made from 100% polyester, it never got creased when you packed it away. So I did like how well this raincoat folded so small and was instantly ready to wear when you needed it.

What Makes This The Best Raincoat This Year?

For us, it ticked so many boxes. The choice of colours was one of them. There is something for everyone in the range of colours. There are two zipped pockets built into the coat, that are slightly hidden with a seam flap. The coat is waterproof, and not just splash proof and believe me, we put this to the test in Venice. We were on a boat in the Grand Canal and the rain came out of nowhere. It wasn’t just a little bit of rain, the heavens opened. Tilly had her raincoat in her backpack and hurriedly put it on. Her raincoat kept her drier than mine kept me.

There is an adjustable hood so you can pull the hood right in if the weather gets bad, and loosen it when you are not wearing it. There is a waist draw cord inside the raincoat, you can pull this to make it more flattering as you wear it. Or you can loosen it when you need to. If you are wearing more layers than usual, you can loosen the draw cord to make it fit comfortably.

The seams of the coat are all sealed. This means that rain is not going to seep into the seams and make you wet. Think of a tent, all of those seams are sealed so you are comfortable in the rain. These seams have had the same treatment, to keep you dry.

As well as a zipper on the front of the coat, there are poppers to help keep it secured in the event of a rain storm.

What Did We Think Of The Lands End Packable Raincoat?

The most important thing was that Tilly loved the coat. So the choice of 9 colours was great. We chose the Deep Sea Navy colour. I liked the elasticated cuffs on the sleeves. I loved how flattering this raincoat is to wear. It fits perfectly when you have adjusted the draw cord inside the coat. And for days when you are bloating or wearing more layers, you can loosen it a little. The inside of the coat is mesh and the coat is lightweight to carry around in your bag. The outside of the raincoat feels soft to the touch, not like your normal raincoat.

We chose the regular size which was 82cm/32½ins long, so it is a good length to wear. But they also do a petite and a plus size raincoat to fit your body.

As I said earlier, the rain came down pretty heavily in Venice. As we found a cafe to assess how wet we were under our coats, Tilly was dry, there were only wet patches on her dress which was not covered by her raincoat.

When we packed the raincoat into the pocket when we were not using it, it was a tight fit. And it was slightly difficult to do the zip up. You need to push the raincoat into all corners of the pocket to make it fit.
