Our Awesome Interrail Adventure Trip To Split
On day 3 of our awesome interrail adventure, we woke up as we were coming into Split. And by the look of the train station our hearts sank a little bit. The station was run down and covered in graffiti. We got off the train and tried to leave our bags somewhere, but the lockers in the station were broken. So we walked down the road and found somewhere to leave them. Then we were free to explore Split.
The old town is within walking distance from the trains, and it is very easy to find. You just walk along the seafront. As we walked more into Split, we discovered the beautiful side of the city. It was so clean, there were roads lined with bars and cafes. Each cafe overlooked the harbour, and it was so nice to sit there. We had some food and then walked around Diocletian’s Palace.
Diocletian’s Palace covers almost half of the old town of Split. It was built for the old Roman emperor Diocletian to retire in. The palace was built in 400 AD and it still stands today. You can pay to get into the palace, but we didn’t have time. We had a bus tour to get to.
Taking A Bus Tour In Split On Our Awesome Interrail Adventure
We had booked a bus tour through GetYourGuide, and it took us to some kind of boring place that was interactive and strange place talking about the areas around Split. It isn’t something I would have gone out of my way to do. But as it was part of the tour, we did it. In the end, there was a VR experience and everyone was oohing and ahhing about it, but It wasn’t all that!
Then we went to an Olive museum, this was more fun than the interactive experience. We learned about how to make olive oil, and we all know that the most random information you collect comes up in a quiz night question. Unfortunately, there is so much pressure to buy stuff at the end of these tours and you simply cannot afford to pay the prices they sell things at when you are on a budget holiday. And we couldn’t be carrying it all around for the next two weeks.
Visiting Klis Fortress On Our Awesome Interrail Trip
The last stop was Klis Fortress, Tilly was so excited about this because of the link to Game Of Thrones. When we got there, there was a huge steep hill! I was like … yeah, I am not walking up there. But Tilly wanted to, so I couldn’t say no. I hope when she is older, she remembers that time I walked up the steep hill so she could go to the fortress.
Klis Fortress was the scene of the village of Meereen in Game Of Thrones. There were quite a few scenes filmed in Croatia, so when you go there, there will be a few mentions of Game Of Thrones. Dubrovnik is also a good place to visit for GOT locations. Tilly was so excited about being at the fortress, it was worth the walk up the steep hill with uneven cobblestones to see the look on her face.
At the end of the bus tour, we headed to our apartment for the next couple of nights. We were looking forward to sleeping in a bed. We hadn’t slept properly for days.
The Apartment With The Wierd Creepy Guy
We took an Uber to the apartment we had booked, he told us he would be there all day. The Uber dropped us off and waited a couple of minutes until we rang the bell of the apartments. He said he would be down in a few minutes, but we seemed to wait for ages. He let us in the apartment and it was on par with what you would expect from a Croatian apartment. There was a washing machine, which was good. But he had left his laundry in there, so we rang his buzzer and told him that his laundry was in the washer. he told us he would pop in, in a few minutes and get it. We took the laundry out of the washer, put it outside his apartment and locked the door! He wasn’t coming in.
We kept hearing him rummaging about outside, so my friend and I peered around the curtains and watched his every move.
That night we did sleep well! But we made sure everything was locked up before we went to bed.
