Visiting Beautiful Krka Waterfalls On Day 4

We woke up refreshed and had to be in Split Centre at 10 am. Although the journey to Krka waterfalls was cheap in price, we would have to pay 30 Euros each to get into the waterfalls. We met near to Diocletans Palace and this tour guide was like an army sergeant major. He marched us through the town and at top speed to the bus. Today the temperature was going to hit 39 degrees!

The bus took about an hour to get to Krka National Park, then half an hour to get the tickets and go through the park to our start point. By now the sun was absolutely blazing down. But the walk around the waterfalls was shaded with trees, so it cooled it down.

As you enter the waterfalls, there is a shop to buy ice cream and drinks to take with you. But it is not cheap! There are also toilets, use these because there are no toilets on the trail. There is a map with the way to go, and things you can stop and look at on the way.

Walking The Trail Of Beautiful Krka Waterfalls

The guide told us the way to go to get to the main waterfall. We were pretty pleased to dump the guide as he marched us everywhere. I am the type of person who likes to take their time. So soak it all in and take photos. When someone is rushing you it is difficult to do. It kind of takes the fun out of the day. So we were happy to go on our merry way.

We did take our time, Krka waterfalls are on lots of little islands that you get to over little bridges. Unless you look at a map, you wouldn’t know they were islands. Eventually, you come out to a clearing where the main waterfall is. The Skradinski Buk waterfall is one of the most famous waterfalls in Croatia. Unfortunately, you cannot swim in the waterfall because there have been drownings over the years.

The national park also contains cultural and historical sites, including ancient ruins, and watermills that show traditional ways of life in the area.

Leaving the Waterfall Area

We took a boat from the waterfalls to Skradin, it was 30 minutes long and one side of the boat is in the shade, whilst one side was in the blazing sun. Make sure you sit on the right side, otherwise, you will burn. At Skradin you have a little town to explore, although there isn’t much there. But there is a beach area where is it safe to swim. The ground in the water is very rocky, so wear beach shoes.

Tips For Krka Waterfalls

Make sure you take some water with you as it does get hot and it is a bit of a hike to get to the main waterfall. There is nowhere on the way to buy a drink until the end. There are a lot of steps to climb but there are also signs to show disabled and stroller access.

To make the most of your visit, it’s a good idea to check the official website of Krka National Park for up-to-date information about entrance fees, opening hours, and any special regulations or guidelines. Also, visiting during the colder and off-peak seasons helps you avoid crowds and it is a lot cheaper.

We Also Went Wine Tasting As Part Of Our Tour

After Krka Waterfalls, we went to a wine-tasting session. There was a little winery on the way back to Split, where we were welcomed and we were given some different wines to try. The samples were generous and the wine was lovely. The downside of travelling with a backpack is that you cannot buy the wine because you have to carry it around.

As well as wine, you also get some cheese and olives to nibble on whilst you sample the different wines. Soon the day was over and we headed back to Split, knowing it was our last night in the creepy guys’ apartment.
