Being The Maid Of Honour

Being asked to be a maid of honour is just that, an honour. It is a chance to be there for your best friend who has no doubt been there for you. You are a huge part of her special day from start to finish and you want to ensure it is as special as it can be. So here are some top tips for how to be the best maid of honour or chief bridesmaid you possibly can be.

It starts before it is official

Chances are if you are going to be the maid of honour you may well know you are in the running for the job before you are officially asked. It is not uncommon for future husbands to call upon your services before he has even asked the question. Your input may be required when it comes to giving advice on how and when to ask. About engagement rings or even confidence boosters. So be sure you know whether your bestie would like engagement rings with Celtic designs or simple stunning solitaires. You don’t want to stumble at the first hurdle.

The hen party

One of your leading roles will be to arrange the hen party. they are getting more and more extravagant these days. Long weekends abroad are commonplace as are multiple parties to allow for multiple guests. You will need to think about whether your bride would like a theme, fancy dress or games, and whether they are appropriate for the mother-in-law. Whether you need to stay close to home or are expected to arrange far-flung travels. It can be a big logistical ask but as long as you include the right people in the right place you cannot go far wrong and don’t be afraid to pull on the other bridesmaids for help.

Dress shopping

Coming in at a very close second to the hen party is dress shopping. The wedding dress is a huge part of any bride’s day as is the entire process of choosing it. You will need to be on hand to accompany the bride dress shopping, on dress fittings and of course shopping for the bridesmaids’ dresses. Dress shopping can be an exciting and fun day out, so make the most of it, visit several dress shops, book in lunch and some post-shopping cocktails. Make it a day (or three) to remember.

Be a hand to hold

You were chosen for the role for a reason. You are the brides treasured and trusted confident. And you have been there over the years when she needed you most. She has leaned on you and relied on you and now is no different. That is why she chose you. Getting married is a huge step in anyone’s life and no bride can do it without the support of their best friend. Be there when she is having her latest freak out over seating plans. Calm her nerves when the venue has a last-minute issue. And most importantly listen to her when she comes to you for advice or worries. She needs you before, during and after the wedding day. It is a commitment but one you will enjoy and remember forever.
