I think for most of us, the days of buying expensive gifts for friends and family have gone. Nowadays everyone is trying to save money to pay utility bills and gifts are the last thing on people’s minds. But it needn’t be like that because today we are going to talk about building up a gift box. A gift box is a box that you have and you add gifts that you buy cheaply in there. Then you use them for people on their birthdays and Christmas. It is easy to set up a gift box and you will save so much money throughout the year and a lot of money at Christmas.

A gift box can be a plain cardboard box or it can be a plastic box with a lid. But it does need to be able to keep gifts neat and tidy, without being too squashed. Personally, I just use a sturdy cardboard box. Then as it gets full, I start another cardboard box.

Inside the box, keep some folded wrapping paper, scissors, bows and ribbons. Then you are not hunting for that stuff when you need to wrap a gift. • There are many ways that I fill my gift box up, and it is always done so cheaply. The best way to start your gift box is to go shopping in the after-Christmas sales. This is the best time to start your gift box because you are still counting the cost of Christmas and you are more determined to set your gift box up. The after-Christmas sales often start a few days before Christmas, so keep your eyes peeled for bargains. But most sales start on Boxing day, and you can easily do this online and shop from home.
• The best gifts are available on Boxing day, but if you leave it for a few weeks, you can often get gifts for pennies. Boots always reduce their stuff to 50% on Boxing day, but by the end of January, it is reduced by 75%. This is prime time to get your gifts, but there is less of a selection and it can be a bit wild as customers fight for the best gifts. So don’t worry if you cannot get out on Boxing day.
• Unwanted prizes from competitions, raffles and tombolas can be put into your gift box. Sometimes they are free or only cost 50p to win. Raffle and Tombola prizes might not look great but they will do as gifts for teachers at the end of the year or at Christmas. Competition prizes are great to keep for gifts because you can win something huge in value and keep it for someone special.
• Regifting has always been popular amongst people. Although some people think it is rude, it is better than putting the gift in a cupboard and never seen again. I have never regifted anything but if you are regifting, you need to tape a mote to it, saying who gave you the gift, so you don’t send it back to them in the future.

Make Sure You Have A Selection Of Gifts

If your friends and family are full of adults and kids. You need to think about the age ranges of the kids too. So buy a selection of kid’s gifts as you see them. If you are shopping and see some toys that are cheap, buy them if you know who to give them to. But remember that a gift is only a bargain if you are going to use it.

Weekly Retail Reductions To Build A Gift Box

Work out which day of the week your shops reduce products. Superdrug reduces products on the shelves on a Wednesday, so take a stroll around and see what’s reduced. If it is still expensive, keep an eye on it until the following Wednesday and it might be reduced again. However, it might sell between the reduction days and you could lose out. Hopefully, you get lucky though and you can grab that bargain.

Weekly offers in shops help to make things more affordable. Boots has £10 Tuesdays, where they highlight a certain product for £10. You could save 70% on a gift if you know that you have someone to give it to.

Whereas Superdrug has Starbuys that they offer weekly. The products are generally everyday products like face masks, face creams etc. But they are ideal to put in a gift box because you can make a pamper hamper. But there are also Starbuy fragrances every week, where you can save a lot of money. If you see the favourite perfume of your friends and family, you can buy it and pop it in your gift box. If you buy it a week before Christmas, you end up paying twice the price.

Supermarkets have weekly offers where they sell certain gift products cheaper than normal. Especially if you have a loyalty card with them.

One great way to add free cheap gifts to your gift box is to get a loyalty card. Loyalty cards offer points that turn into money, then you can get gifts that don’t cost you actual money. Keep An Eye On Summer Sales

In the summer shops will sell their old stock off that they have been holding all year. You can get some amazing bargains. £80 gifts reduced to £1 just to shift them. You need to be quick to get some of these bargains and you will find people buying it to resell on eBay. But if you hear about such a summer sale, get straight to the shop.
