Why Make Natural Christmas decorations?

Transparent paper stars that shimmer brightly on the window. Cheeky Santa Clauses or an original Advent wreath. With these decoration ideas, you wish the Christmas season would last even longer! Here we have some ideas of how to make natural Christmas decorations. You can also try making your own Christmas cookies to eat.

Sweet Christmas elves

This is how it works:

Paint a small clay pot from the garden with red paint and let it dry. It is even more natural without color, then your devil will have the original color of the pot. Cut four pieces from a string for the arms and legs and tie a knot to each end of the small wooden balls or balls of other material you have there. Arms and legs are glued to the clay pot with glue.

For the head, cut a circle out of felt or other remaining fabric and divide it into quarters. Each quarter is rolled up into a hat, the ends are glued. For the face, glue a red bead to the large wooden ball as a nose and draw on the eyes, browbones, and mouth with a black felt pen. Glue the felt hat onto the head and then attach it to the clay pot.

What you need for an elf:

• small clay pot
• Red color
• Four small and one large wooden ball with a hole
• A red pearl
• Red cord
• Red felt
• adhesive
• Black felt pen

Alternatively: gnomes made of cork

If the elves described above are too complex for you, you can alternatively make elves out of corks and felt. To do this, cover a cork with red felt and attach a cork disc to it as a face. The face will be painted on. Put a hat on your head, which you also make out of felt.

Fold paper stars for Christmas decorations

It is not for nothing that stars made of transparent paper are a classic. They are easy to make and beautify windows, glass doors, or large lanterns. There are no limits to the variety of sizes and colors. You can also use old wrapping paper or other used paper for this.

What you need:

• Paper in the colors you want
• Glue
• scissors
• ruler
• pencil

This is how it works:

For a medium-sized star, cut eight rectangles of 7.5 by 13.5 centimeters out of transparent paper. If you combine two colors, you will need four rectangles of each color.

Fold the rectangles in half lengthways and unfold them again. The resulting fold line serves as a guide for the next step: Fold the four corners up so that the rectangle has a point at each end. Fold one of the two tips towards the line again. Now the rectangle has a wider and a narrower tip.

The eight folded rectangles are now glued together as a star. To do this:

1. Lay them all with the smooth side up.
2. Apply glue to one of the wider of the two tips’ outer edges and attach the next folded rectangle to it.
3. If you are working with two different colors, alternate each time.

All eight rectangles glued together make a star.

Advent wreath tree trunk

What you need:

• A crooked tree trunk, about 50 cm long and 10 cm thick
• Jute cord, approx. 3 meters
• 4 tealight glasses in orange, with thorn (alternatively: classic Advent wreath candle holder)
• Drill bit (4mm)

This is how it works:

Place the tree trunk so that it does not wobble. Measure and mark 7 cm from each end. Divide the middle piece into three equal parts and mark the holes.

Now drill the four holes about 2 cm deep with a drill (4mm diameter). Place the jute cord around the trunk and always wind it crosswise at the top and bottom. Knot the ends.

Put the tealight glasses in the holes. If you don’t have tealight glasses, you can also use simple Advent wreath candle holders.

Ball Christmas decorations out of natural materials

What you need:

• Dry, fine brushwood
• Winding wire, annealed (thickness: 0.65mm)
• 30 pearl needles
• 25 felt stars
• Orange peel
• Scented oil to drizzle over (optional)
• Star biscuit shape, 3cm
• Side cutter

This is how it works:

Shape the collected plant material into loose balls with your hands. Now wrap the winding wire a few times and shape the balls so nicely. Pinch off the wire and stick the ends inside the ball. Cut off protruding parts of the plant with scissors.

Place the felt stars on the pearl needles and distribute them around the balls. For one of the balls, prick five stars with a biscuit shape from an orange peel and also stick them on the ball.
