Halloween parties are getting more popular, especially as the weather is normally rubbish in the UK for trick or treating and then add Covid into the mix and you have a really rubbish Halloween time. So over the past couple of years, parties with families and bubble members have been more popular. But you also need to keep them entertained as you celebrate Halloween. So here are some spooky kids games at a Halloween party to keep kids entertained.

Spooky Storytelling

Halloween is of course the scariest night of the year, and you can get the kids creeped out with some spooky stories to set the mood at a party. Obviously, this is only good for kids that are slightly older. You can make some cards with story prompts on them, then they must use those prompts to tell their part of the story. Place the cards upside down on the floor and everyone sits in a circle. Have a torch that you can shine in your face, this sets the mood for telling spooky stories. Some words to use are

Make sure the story starts with ‘On a dark and stormy night‘ or ‘Once upon a time in a haunted house‘ or something similar. Carry on making up the story as you go along until everyone has had a turn.

Mummy Memory

Mummy Memory is a game where you need a tray. Cover it with a toilet roll wrapped around it to look like a mummy’s tray. Then place creepy things on there like spiders, stickers, mini pumpkins, sweets, cobwebs and other party toys that you can buy. Get the kids to look at it and try and remember what is on the tray. Then cover the tray and the Halloween bits over with a cloth.

Ask the kids to remember what they saw. the older kids can write a list of things onto a piece of paper. Whilst younger ones can shout out, then you remove the ones that are called out by the kids. The person who remembers the most is the winner. They could possibly win the contents of the tray or a different prize.

Terror Tag

You need plenty of space for this game, so either a huge room or a hall. Or try playing it outside in the open. Before the game is about to start, you need to tell all of the players whether they are mortal or a ghost. Write it down on a piece of paper, so that nobody can hear you. There will need to be more mortals to ghosts ratio. Maybe one ghost to every five people.

Either turn the lights down so it is dark or blindfold the players with a scarf or something. The players need to walk around the room reaching for other players. Then if you touch someone and shake their hands, you need to whisper in their ears, whether you are a mortal or a ghost. If the person that touched you was a ghost, then you need to stand totally still as if you have frozen in terror.
