This is a great activity to do with the whole family. although this is for a homemade Margherita pizza, you can add other ingredients to it too. If ham and pineapple are your thing, then go for it. This activity is great for a family who have individual tastes because you make the pizza as you please. It takes 10 minutes to make the pizza dough, and ten minutes to cook the pizza. You also add some time to raise the pizza, although some people don’t. This makes a 10” pizza for one or to share.

Ingredients For Homemade Margherita Pizza

  • 130g of strong bread flour
  • 1 tbsp instant yeast
  • passata, Tomato puree or tomato sauce
  • 125g of grated mozzarella
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil and
  • Handful of fresh mint leaves
  • 1 cup warm water
  • You can also add some Sun-dried sliced tomatoes for extra flavour on the pizza or in the flour, but this is optional.

If you have other flavours you want to add to the pizza, you can pop them on the top too. Be adventurous.

How To Make The Pizza

Put the flour in a medium bowl, and stir in the yeast and the salt. Pour the warm water in and mix everything together.

Knead for a few minutes until a dough forms. If your dough is too wet and sticky add some more flour to it.

Leave your pizza dough to rise for an hour or two. Some people leave it to rise overnight. Other people choose not to

Now transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface, roll out a ball of dough into a large round and place it onto a 10 “round pizza pan, how thick you want the crust, is totally up to you.

Preheat your oven to 220c, and then get back to adding the flavours to your pizza.

Evenly spread the passata or tomato puree onto the dough. Add the mozzarella and mint leaves. Bake for 10 minutes. Enjoy! Of course, you can also add your other flavours too.

Homemade pizza dough is preferred but store-bought will work fine too, especially if you are short of time.
