How To Spend A Few Days In Brasov, Romania

If you are a regular reader of my blog, then you will know that I have been to Brasov a few times. We are heading there again soon, and I know Brasov is a place that people are visiting more and more. I am a big advocate for travel by train to be able to see more than flying. So it is easy to break up your journey between Budapest and Bucharest to spend a few days in Brasov. What you will read is our experience as a family on our last visit to Brasov.

Taking The Cable Car Up Tampa Mountain

Brasov is surrounded by beautiful green luscious mountains and on my last trip to Brasov, I didn’t have time to visit the mountain top. So on this trip, I wanted to go. We joined the queue and it seemed to be forever before we got to the front of the queue. We took our place inside the cable car and travelled to the top. Once we were there we walked along the walkway at the top. This took us to the famous Brasov sign. The view over the city was awesome. I really recommend this, if you visit Brasov. There were loads of ‘Beware of the Bears’ signs up there. So I guess this is something you need to consider if you take such a trip. The cable car cost a few Romanian Lei.

Visit Bran Castle On Your Few Days In Brasov

Another way to spend a few days in Brasov is to actually venture out of the city to Draculas Castle. Bran Castle in the town of Bran, was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula’. It was the home of Vlad The Impaler as well as other noble families.

The tickets cost 60 Lei for an adult ticket, which works out to just over £10. You get discounts for students and children. When you are inside, there is a one-way system, so it is easy to get around. But there are so many stairs. If you struggle with stairs, then this isn’t for you. The steps are the original ones and there is no bannister as most of them spiral. Instead, you have to hold onto the wall as you walk up and down. If you are lucky there might be some rope to hold onto as you go up and down.

The castle is beautiful and I recommend a visit there. Once you are inside there are optional things to visit too, like the torture rooms. But you need to buy an add-on ticket for these. When you have finished with the castle there are some lovely gardens to sit in and have a picnic.

You Must Visit Sub Tampa Restaurant

Although I visited this restaurant previously with a team of bloggers. We went there again on our trip because I was excited to take Tilly there. The food as always was out of this world and the plates were soon empty. Tilly chose from the kid’s menu and she got a dinner of mixed meals, which was perfect. If only they did them for adults because then we could try different foods all of the time.

If you visit Brasov please take a visit to the restaurant. You can find it at the bottom of Tampa mountain, it is surrounded by greenery and has a lovely view if you sit outside in the summer.

The Main Town Square

Here you will find a market sometimes, as well as bars and restaurants to sit and watch the world go by. There is also a small cathedral, that I wanted to take Tilly to. There was a wedding happening when we went. But the cathedral was still open to visitors. I liked this idea because people can still turn to God if they need to. But I am not sure I would want my wedding disturbed like that.

There is also a land train. I always say it doesn’t matter how old you are, you want to go on the land train! The land train take you around Brasov, past the first Romanian school and on a small adventure. It is such an awesome little trip for youngsters to do. As we didn’t have time to visit all of the places in Brasov, it was a good way to point some places of interest out.

How We Got About For A Few Days In Brasov

We used the Bolt Taxi service. You set up the account in advance and you drop your debit card details on the app. When you want a taxi, you simply open the app and put where you want to go and where you are at the moment. The app calculates the cost of the ride and how long it will be. After the ride, your card is debited the amount you were quoted. It is safer than getting in a taxi in any country and being overcharged.

On my previous visit, I used the public bus service and it was easy enough to navigate too.
