Switch Or Switch Lite? That Is The Question
I guess if you are reading this, then you are thinking of going down the route of buying your child or someone else a games console and you are not sure which is the best console to buy. Nintendo currently has two models of Nintendo Switch available for sale: Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite. Both of these consoles are awesome but they are also both different so we wanted to let you know the difference in both of the consoles. Differences Between The Devices
Both systems can play Switch games, but there are some key differences between the two consoles namely price and features if you buy your first Nintendo Switch on the market, you should know.
The most important thing to consider is how to play games on both systems, and the decision of which system to buy may come down to cost vs flexibility.
Which Switch Works With TV?
Nintendo Switch is named for the multiple ways it can be played. You can connect it to a TV or monitor by using the docking system. You sit on a desktop and use a wireless controller to play games. Or in handheld mode, a bit like a classic Game Boy.
On the other hand, the Switch Lite is purely a handheld device. It cannot be connected to the TV. The Joy-Con controller can be removed from a standard Nintendo Switch to be played wirelessly. On the Switch Lite the controllers are built-in and permanently connected to the device
The difference in price
The standard Nintendo Switch is more expensive. The price is £279.99.
If you are looking for something cheaper, Switch Lite is £199.99, which is £100 cheaper.
Games Play on Switch VS Switch Lite
All Switch games are compatible with the standard Nintendo Switch. But Switch Lite has slightly more restrictions; it only plays Switch games that support handheld mode. This means that some games that need the Joy-cons to be separated from the Switch to play are not played well ( or not played at all) on the Switch Lite. This includes games such as Ring Fit Adventure and Nintendo Labo games.
For both devices, you can buy games as a physical game or as a digital version. We buy digital versions because it is easier to travel with. We don’t need to carry games around, at the risk of losing them. But it does use up storage on the console, so you need to buy a memory card.
The difference in Storage
Both of the devices have 32GB of built-in storage space. They support the use of microSDHC or microSDXC cards up to 2TB to expand storage space. These cards are sold separately from places like Amazon
The difference in Audio, Speakers
The regular Nintendo Switch is compatible with 5.1-inch linear PCM output through the HDMI connector in TV mode.
Nintendo Switch Lite does not have this because it does not support TV mode. However, they both provide stereo speakers and a 3.5 mm 4-pole stereo output port.
The difference in Battery
Nintendo’s Switch Lite offers better battery life. The portable console can fluctuate between 3 to 7 hours of power, while the older switch can operate between 2.5 to 6.5 hours.
The difference between size and screen size
Nintendo Switch is bigger and heavier than Nintendo Switch Lite. After connecting a pair of Joy-Con controllers to the Switch, the system weighs 0.88 lbs, while the Switch Lite weighs 0.61 lbs.
The Nintendo Switch also has a slightly larger touch screen with a diagonal of 6.2 inches. The Switch Lite screen is 5.5 inches.
There is also a difference in battery life. The battery life of the Nintendo Switch currently sold by Nintendo is between 4.5 and 9 hours, depending on the game you are playing. The battery life of the Switch Lite battery is slightly shorter, ranging from 3 to 7 hours depending on the game.
What colours are available?
If you want to buy Nintendo Switch, you can choose from a variety of Joy-Con colours. Standard models are available in moderate grey or “neon” red and blue. Nintendo sells Joy-Con controllers in many other colours, including green, orange, yellow, pink, purple, and blue. These additional Joy-Cons are sold separately, and a pair usually sells for £79.99. It is worth buying an extra set of Joy-cons if you have a big family or want to get together with friends. it enables more of you to be able to play on the Tv together.
Switch Lite is available in four colours: Grey, coral, turquoise and yellow and blue. They all look pretty and nice.
Conclusion
So you have, two Switch models compared for you to buy for your child or loved one. Which one will you jump at? Fortunately, no matter which one you choose, you can play a huge library of amazing games. You can find a wide library of games at the online Nintendo shop. And don’t forget you need to buy an online membership for £17.99 a year to be able to play with other friends online. This can also be bought from the online Nintendo shop from your console.
I guess the main thing for you to consider is your budget for the console and what you want it to do. Although they are both on the higher end of the console prices, you do need to remember that the Switch can be played on the TV. So it becomes a proper console and not just handheld. So with that in mind, it is actually a really good price for a console.
Although the Lite cannot be played on the Tv, it still has specs and playing capabilities as good as the original Switch. The choice of which console you buy is down to you. Enjoy your purchase.
