Top Hat Restaurant For Awesome Food And Drinks

The Top Hat restaurant is at 213-215 Tottenham Court Road, W1T 7PS in London. It is really easy to find as it is in the Monopoly Lifesized building. But you can use the restaurant without using Lifesized Monopoly if you wish. We recently visited Lifesized Monopoly and it is definitely an experience that is worth a visit. We were asked to review the Top Hat restaurant for an honest review. And I can tell you that you will not be disappointed with the food and drink there.

The Top Hat Restaurant Decor

When you first walk into the restaurant you are welcomed by a member of staff who takes you to your table. You are surrounded by Monopoly photos and pictures in the background and you can choose to sit in a booth, by the windows or further around in the restaurant. There is even Monopoly wallpaper covering the walls!

On some of the benches, there are USB ports to charge your phones up whilst you eat. So you can stay to drink and eat as long as you want without your phone dying on you. The tables have a cup with a pair of dice. On your menu, there are dice next to the food options. So if you cannot decide what to eat for lunch or dinner. You simply roll the dice and let fate decide your food for you. Match the dice to the menu and that is what you are eating!

The Food Options That Are Available For You

There is a food option for absolutely everyone in the Top Hat restaurant. You can download the menu before you get to the restaurant and it is a fun design to look like Monopoly Cards. At the bottom, it tells you what is included in the food. So if you have gluten intolerance you know what to avoid. There are also vegan options to choose from.

If you pre-book your meal you can order a 2-course meal for £20. This is an absolute bargain! But you are able to walk in and eat and drink at the Top Hat restaurant too. We chose a variety of different foods to eat and we were so impressed with how they arrived.

The Starters

For starters, we chose to have The Bankers Share which is a cheese rarebit with dough balls. Kim is a vegetarian, so this was a great option for us both. Our friends chose Roll With It, which is curried sausage rolls with house chutney. We had plenty of cheese left at the end of the starter, so we were asked if we wanted it left on the table to finish with our meal.

The Bankers Share is like cheese fondue, it tastes of cheese and onion. You dip your dough balls into the cheese and enjoy. Roll With It is a spicy sausage roll cut into three pieces with a side of chutney.

The Main Meals

For the purpose of review, we tried a selection of dishes, so we could help you to choose what you will eat.

Burgers

The Cash Cow is a burger with skin-on fries. The burger comes with all the trimmings of tomato, pickle, lettuce and onion. It is served in a brioche bun. I don’t know about you but a brioche bun is the best bun for a burger meal.

The burger was huge! and the fries were just like homemade chips and some were so crispy, that they were like eating crisps at dinner. What we were not ready for was the branding on top of the burgers. I have never been and eaten food anywhere that had its own branding on it before. The monopoly money sign was such a great finishing touch.

You can also choose to have this burger meal with a vegan meat patty if you are vegan or vegetarian. There is also the option to add cheese or bacon for £1 each when you order the burger.

The High Flyer is a chicken burger that is served with sweet potato fries on the side. The chicken burger is made with Jerk marinated chicken, jerk mayo sauce and rainbow slaw. This is served in a lovely fresh brioche bun. Again it was branded with the Monopoly money sign to give it a personal touch. The jerk marinade and the jerk mayo sauce give it a great spicy touch of the Caribbean.

Steak

Raise The Steaks is just what you would expect it to be. You can choose the 8oz rump steak or pay a little bit more and go for the 8oz sirloin steak instead. This is served with the same fries as you get with the burger meal and you are asked how you want your meat cooked. I like mine to be well done, and it was a little pink but not enough to put me off eating it. You can choose peppercorn or chimichurri sauce. It was filling and absolutely tasty.

There are more options for main meals, and I wish we could have tried them all but that just means we need to go back again to try more.

Side Orders

As well as main meals you can also get side orders. The restaurant doesn’t do children’s meals, but these side orders are a great compromise. One of our guests had a small appetite so she chose a couple of side orders instead

She chose Mac & Cheese, which came in a small side bowl and some Skin On Fries, both were good value for money and she thoroughly enjoyed them.

Desserts

There are a few options for desserts and again they are very clear on the menu with the food allergies and intolerances. We chose the Prize Brownie Sunday which comes in a glass and was simply gorgeous. The dessert is made with small bitesize chocolate brownies, 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream and cream. All of this is smothered in chocolate sauce.

Mr Monopoly’s Millionaire Cheesecake looked elegant, quality and beautiful when it was placed on the table. Unfortunatly, the photos do not do it justice! The cheesecake looked like it was drizzled in liquid gold. The cheesecake tasted the same as an original cheesecake and it wasn’t too sweet.

What We Thought Of Top Hat Restaurant

We were all impressed with the main meals. They were served on a wooden serving board rather than a plate, which is a touch that I really like. On top of the board is a sheet of decorative monopoly paper to add to the authentic Monopoly look. Our meals were accompanied with Cocktails and mocktails, we have written about the lovely drinks here.

The staff in the restaurant were attentative to the customers needs and dealt with all of the customers needs. The prices in the restaurant were completely in line with quality London restaurants. If you have played Monopoly lifesized, and won you will get a £10 voucher to go towards your meal. So my tip would be to eat after you have been to Monopoly Lifesized.

The meals were simple and filling, and they were huge! I feel that a childrens menu would benefit the restaurant because Tilly is 12 and she struggled with the burger. Where as her friend chose side orders, which made a strange combination of food – although she thoroughly enjoyed it.

Would we go there again? In a heartbeat! We would go to both The Top Hat Restaurant and Monopoly Lifesized again. We recommend them both for a good day out.
